Bronze-coated battle armor clanked against itself, creating metallic echoes in the corridor. A large red cape dramatically trailed from a pair of shoulder pauldrons. The man wearing these items worked his jaw nervously as he approached the chamber at the end of the hall.A pair of guards stopped him before he entered. "High Executor Grade Three Marcus Scipio reporting for a private conference with Emperor Castellus," he said in an authoritative voice. The guards nodded and stepped aside with symmetrical perfection. He passed through unimpeded.Marcus entered a dark chamber, lit only by a small glow at the far end. The busts of great generals, philosophers and politicians decorated the room. Bookcases filled with great writings lined the walls, many of them original scripts.
